What is a pipeline review?
A pipeline review is a recurring meeting that looks across open deals to decide which are real, which are at risk and what new pipeline the team needs. Salesforce's guidance describes it as a rep and manager meeting held weekly or twice a month, focused on what stands between each deal and its close. Some teams run it one to one; others run it as a team. A forecast call is a different meeting: it commits a number. The pipeline review decides what is behind that number.
Why it matters to a revenue leader
A pipeline review is where a leader sees the quarter forming before it shows up in the forecast. Run as a status readout, it repeats the CRM. Run as an inspection, it moves deals to the right stage, finds the ones that need the leader's help, and shows early whether there is enough coverage to hit next quarter. The difference is the questions the manager asks.
Example
Fictitious numbersA regional VP runs a weekly pipeline review with four managers. Instead of walking every deal, each manager brings the three deals most likely to move the quarter and the one that worries them most. Twenty minutes in, the VP has moved $600,000 from commit to best case and booked time to join two buyer meetings.
"Which deals in this pipeline would we be surprised to lose, and what is the evidence for each?"
